2020-04-25 04:23

Another batch of medical supplies donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China was handed over to Barbados today, including 1000 gowns, 1000 face masks, 1000 goggles, 1000 gloves, 1000 pairs of shoe covers and 200 infrared thermometers.

This is the third batch of donations from China since the outbreak of COVID-19.

Just as the Chinese president Xi Jinping has pointed out that viruses respect no borders and epidemics do not distinguish between races. Mankind is a community with a shared future. COVID-19 is the enemy for all. No country could stay immune to the viruses or fight them alone. The only way to defeat them is through concerted efforts of all.

As the first country to alert the world about the virus and to grapple with a serious outbreak early on, China served as a crucial line of defense for the world. Fighting off the virus with strength, ingenuity and sacrifice, China shared important experience with the world and boosted global confidence in an ultimate victory. Guided by the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, the Chinese government has acted in an open, transparent and responsible manner. China has provided timely updates to the World Health Organization (WHO) and relevant countries and regions, released the genome sequencing of the virus at the earliest opportunity, shared control and treatment experience with the rest of the world without reservation. Although fighting the virus in China remains a formidable task, China has been doing all it could to provide assistance to other countries and actively engage in international cooperation.

Under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and with great efforts by the Barbadian people, Barbados has achieved encouraging progress on the fighting against COVID-19. As an old friend, China is always standing firmly alongside with Barbados.

Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Barbados, H. E. Yan Xiusheng and the Acting Chief Medical Officer of Ministry of Health and Wellness of Barbados Dr. Kenneth George attended the hand-over ceremony at Grantley Adams International Airport.

Up to now, Chinese government has donated 7000 face masks, 5000 KN95 respirators, 8450 gloves, 4530 goggles, 4500 gowns, 1000 pairs of shoe covers,250 infrared thermometers and 1 ventilator to Barbados.
