The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Barbados and the Prime Minister of Barbados jointly attended the Christening Ceremony for the Patrol Craft granted by the People's Liberation Army of China to Barbados

On July 20th, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Barbados, H.E. YAN Xiusheng and the Prime Minister of Barbados, the Hon. Mia Mottley jointly attended the Christening Ceremony for the Patrol Craft granted by the People’s Liberation Army of China to Barbados. The Hon. Mia Mottley cut the ribbon for the patrol craft at the ceremony. Over 100 guests including the Hon. Kirk Humphrey, Minister of Maritime Affairs and the Blue Economy of Barbados and Colonel Glyne Grannum, Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force attended the ceremony.

Ambassador YAN expressed in his speech that the cooperation between China and Barbados in all areas including military and security has been significantly increased since the two countries established diplomatic relations 41 years ago. The patrol craft dedicated to the Barbados Coast Guard is named “Endurance” as an epitome of the long-lasting friendship between China and Barbados, and China stands ready to work together with Barbados to further strengthen the cooperation so as to push the relations between the two armies and two countries to a higher level.

Colonel Grannum expressed his deep appreciation to the Chinese side for the military aid and personnel training from the Chinese government and indicated that the Barbados government will make full use of Chinese aid to improve the BDF’s capacity in coast guard and disaster mitigation.
