The Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Barbados held the Reception in Celebration of the 69th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China

On September 19th, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Barbados, H.E. YAN Xiusheng held a reception at the Hilton Barbados Resort in celebration of the 69th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. Nearly 300 distinguished guests including H.E. Dame Sandra Mason, Governor General of Barbados, the Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados, the Hon. Sir Marston Gibson, Chief Justice of Barbados, 14 cabinet ministers including Senator the Hon. Dr. Jerome Walcott, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, parliamentary members, other government officials, Ambassadors and other representatives from the Diplomatic Corps in Barbados, Honorary Consuls and representatives from Chinese companies in Barbados, the Confucius Institute of the University of West Indies Cave Hill Campus, the Chinese Medical Team and Chinese Association in Barbados attended the reception.

Ambassador Yan expressed that since the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949 and particularly the Reform and Opening-up Policy adopted in 1978, the Chinese people, led and united by the Communist Party of China, has blazed a development path known as "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics", and notable achievements have been witnessed by the whole world. In the first half of this year, facing both internal and external difficulties, under the strong leadership of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core and guided by the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, China overcame the difficulties and achieved 6.8% of its economic growth and remains an engine to boost global growth. Driven by the concept of innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development, China has every confidence and capability to sustain a medium-to-high growth rate, and continue to bring more opportunities to the world economy.

Ambassador Yan pointed out that 2018 serves as a significant link in China's history of national development which is the endeavor to implement the development goals set by the nineteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the 40th anniversary of China's Reform and Opening-up Policy and the 5th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative for International Cooperation. With vivid examples and detailed dates, Ambassador Yan illustrated the great developing goals set in the 19th National Congress of the CPC, the tremendous achievements after adopting the Reform and Opening-up Policy, the plenty achievements and future development prospects of the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the introduction of a number of events held in China and highlighted that China will continue to support the principle of free trade and economic globalization as an effort to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Ambassador Yan further reviewed the fruitful achievements in the pragmatic cooperation between China and Barbados in all areas such as politics, economy and culture, highlighted that China's aid, including those to the Caribbean and Latin American countries, is never attached with any political strings, and China stands ready to gradually increase and innovate its aid so as to better facilitate the social and economic development of the recipient countries. Ambassador Yan wished that both Chinese and Barbadian sides should enhance dialogues, maximize their cooperation potential and encourage opening-up and people-to-people exchanges so as to promote its bilateral relations to a higher level.

Prime Minister Mottley, on behalf of the government and people of Barbados, expressed the warmest congratulations for the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and highly praised the achievements that China has made in all areas. Prime Minister Mottley thanked the Chinese government for its long-standing support to the development of Barbados and specially expressed that since Barbados and China established diplomatic relations 41 years ago, despite different situations that the two countries are facing, Barbados and China always treat each other as equals and both countries have similar developing goals and global challenges such as climate change. Barbados always considers China a true friend and partner and will prioritize the developing of Barbados-China relations in its diplomatic agenda.

Prime Minister Mottley specially emphasized that the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by H.E. Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, provides a new chance for Barbados. The Barbadian side is willing to sign the agreement under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative to further promote the pragmatic cooperation between Barbados and China.

At the reception, documentaries introducing the Belt and Road Initiative were played. Local Barbadian and Chinese students respectively sang folk songs of the two countries as an illustration of the friendship between China and Barbados.

Government officials and other distinguished guests attending the reception expressed their congratulations to Ambassador Yan for the 69th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Government Information Service, the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, the Advocate, Nation News, Barbados Today and other local media made reports on this reception.
