Ambassador Yan Xiusheng Participated in the Official Electric Buses Handover Ceremony in Barbados

The Official Electric Buses Handover Ceremony was held at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex in Barbados on 22nd August 2020. Chinese Ambassador Yan Xiusheng, Mr. Ian Gooding-Edghill, Minister of Transport , Works and Water Resources , Mr. William Duguid, Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, Mr. Charles Griffith, Minister in the Ministry of Water Resources , Mr. Peter Philips, Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security ,Representative from BYD, Barbados Transport Board and other guests participated in the Ceremony.

Ambassador Yan Xiusheng congratulated the successful cooperation between BYD and Barbados government. He pointed out the this was the first time that Chinese-made electric buses arrived in Barbados, which marked the beginning of a new era of cooperation between Barbados and China. Climate Change is the common challenge facing mankind, which no country can address alone. China pays highly attention to climate change and adheres to the execution of Paris Agreement with implementing the vision of innovation, coordinated, green and open development. Barbados government targets the zero-emission in 2030. He believed that with the persistence of the government and people of Barbados, this island would fulfill its mission as planned.

Minister Ian Gooding-Edghill described the handover ceremony as “a historic moment in public transportation in Barbados”. With the enunciation of the Barbados National Energy Policy and Government’s commitment to achieving sustainable energy by 2030, it was evident that the government of Barbados was committed to creating a clean environment, which will enhance the health of its citizens, through the utilization of renewable energy as the alternative to fossil fuels. This fleet of 33 electric buses is part of that commitment. Equipped with USB ports and Wi-Fi, climate control and wheel chair accessible,this is the biggest fleet of electric buses in the Caribbean region.
