Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley Highly Commended the Phone Conversation with President Xi Jinping
2021/07/15

On July 13, 2021, President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with the Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister of Barbados. Prime Minister Mottley tweeted on the phone conversation with President Xi Jinping as follows:

On Tuesday I spoke with His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China, via telephone. I reiterated my congratulations on the centenary of the Chinese Communist Party and registered deepest appreciation for China's support since the beginning of the COVID crisis. China has provided PPE and supplies to assist us in our pandemic efforts and we recently received 30,000 Sinopharm vaccines which came at a critical time to support and protect Barbadians. I also commended President Xi for his ongoing action to ensure that COVID-19 vaccines become a global public good. I also supported the call for a global forum on vaccines and to establish an international clearinghouse that will provide fairness for everyone. I also stressed that Barbados only supports a science-based approach with respect to determining the origins of COVID-19. We discussed the Belt and Road Initiative. Barbados has already benefited from China's cooperation in our infrastructural development needs and results of this can be seen across the landscape of Barbados. We spoke about ways to assist Barbados' economy to grow in order to recover from the economic crisis that has come with COVID. We are also reviewing the case for 5G. The call was a demonstration of the commitment to strengthening relations with China.
